• What Our World Owes To The Ancient Greeks: Self-Rule

Why Studying The Classics Is Crucial To Western Civilization

In the first lecture of Hillsdale College’s course on the histories of Athens and Sparta, which you can follow along with me here, college President Larry Arnn explains why studying the classics is necessary to understand Western civilization.

In the ancient world, Athenians thought of themselves differently than people did nearly everywhere else because they considered themselves to be free. In Greek society, a free person was viewed as an autonomous entity whose right to life or property ought not be disturbed by others. They believed the principles they held as true and right were universal ones that transcended time, space, and nationality.

  • ABC Cancels ‘Roseanne’ After Controversial Tweet On Valerie Jarrett

ABC announced Tuesday afternoon that it was cancelling “Roseanne” hours after the star of the show made a controversial remark about a former adviser to President Obama via Twitter.

“Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” Barr tweeted, in reference to Valerie Jarrett.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” read a statement Tuesday from ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey.

Barr later apologized and deleted the offending tweet.

  • What Americans Must Do To Restore The Constitution

What Americans Must Do To Restore The Constitution

In the tenth lecture of Hillsdale College’s free online Constitution 101 course (which you can take along with me here) Larry Arnn asks: “What would a statesman do to restore the Constitution?”

To ensure citizens continue to uphold the principles behind the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, they must cultivate habits — or mores, if you will — that promote liberty, Arnn says. Temperance, frugality, and courage are moral virtues that individuals must possess to be free. If a person is afraid or cannot exercise self-restraint, then he is a slave to those passions.

    A Greater Reverence For God

Throughout the Declaration of Independence are appeals to God — acknowledgements of his power, respectful references to him, and appeals for his favor.

The ‘Mueller Investigation Needs To End’

In a statement released Wednesday, Sen. John Kennedy, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, called for the ongoing Department of Justice probe led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller to end.

“It’s time to wrap things up,” Kennedy said. “The investigation is important, but so are many other issues, from which the investigation distracts in time, energy, and taxpayer money.”

“Respectfully, Mr. Mueller needs to start winding things down and report his findings to the American people,” Kennedy said about the ongoing, year-old probe into whether Trump and his campaign associates colluded with Russian officials to steal the election from Hillary Clinton.

Trump Should Be Allowed To Block Whomever He Wants On Twitter

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that Donald Trump isn’t allowed to block anyone from his @RealDonaldTrump account on Twitter because it violates the U.S. Constitution.

“This case requires us to consider whether a public official may, consistent with the First Amendment, ‘block’ a person from his Twitter account in response to the political views that person has expressed, and whether the analysis differs because that public official is the President of the United States,” Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald stated in her opinion. “The answer to both questions is no.”

This is absurd. The whole case is based on a few whiny reporters who tweeted things critical of President Trump and found themselves blocked.

New Poll Shows GOP Now Leads In 2018 Generic Ballot

In a new Reuters poll, more people said they would vote for a Republican candidate over a Democrat in the upcoming midterm election, a reversal of previous trends.

Of the 1,139 people surveyed earlier this month, 40.4 percent said they would vote for a Republican in their district in November, up from 32.4 percent of those who were surveyed in December 2017. Only 34.5 percent of respondents said they planned to vote for a Democrat in their district in the upcoming election, down from 45.5 percent in December.

James Clapper Just Lied Again About His Previous Lies About NSA Spying

    ‘I made a mistake. I didn’t lie.’

In an interview with the ladies of “The View” Tuesday afternoon, James Clapper told another lie about his previous lies about the NSA program to spy on American citizens.

Meghan McCain confronted Clapper about a statement he made while testifying before Congress five years ago, when he was asked whether or not the NSA was spying on Americans.

“In 2013 when you were asked about it, you said ‘no,’” McCain said. “So that is a lie.”

“I made a mistake,” Clapper said. “I didn’t lie. I was thinking about something else, another program.”

Clapper then proceeded to prattle on about two different surveillance programs in an attempt to obfuscate his answer.

Despite What You’ve Heard, Trump Didn’t Say Immigrants Are ‘Animals’

In a Wednesday meeting with Californians who oppose the state’s sanctuary city laws, President Trump spoke about MS-13 gang members, who have repeatedly re-entered the United States illegally and commited horrific crimes.

Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims told Trump that she cannot report an MS-13 member to federal authorities unless he met a “certain threshold,” which she felt made her city unsafe. In response, Trump said: “You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals. And we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before.”

Nikki Haley Slams UN, Walks Out On Palestinian Representative

‘Those who suggest the violence has anything to do with the U.S. location of the embassy are sorely mistaken.’

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley slammed the United Nations on Tuesday for pushing an investigation into the measures Israel took to secure its border during violent clashes with Hamas-backed insurgents earlier this week. After she concluded her speech, she walked out of the chamber when a Palestinian representative began to speak.

For months, Palestinians have been protesting along the Gaza-Israeli border in objection to Israel’s 70 years in existence. Protestors have been reportedly burning tires in order to create a thick black cloud of smoke that obfuscates them and enables them to carry out acts of violence.

  • Amazon Boots Christian Nonprofit From Donations Program Because Of SPLC's 'Hate List'

Amazon Boots Christian Nonprofit From Donations Program Because Of SPLC’s ‘Hate List’

A non-profit, public interest law firm which focuses on religious freedom issues has been booted from AmazonSmile, after the Southern Poverty Law Center deemed the law firm a “hate group.”

In a statement released Thursday, Alliance for Defending Freedom President Michael Farris said the law firm has been excluded from the retail giant’s program, which donates a small portion of purchases to the nonprofit of the customer’s choice. Farris said the firm’s exclusion is the result of Amazon’s reliance upon SPLC, an organization that has long been regarded as a glorified direct-mail scam that profits from hate-mongering.

“If you are going to rely on a discredited partisan organization like the SPLC to determine who is eligible to participate in AmazonSmile, you should disclose that in your policy and to your customers,” Farris wrote in a letter to the retail giant.

5 Ways The Left Has Already Brought ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ To Life

“The Handmaid’s Tale,” a TV show based on a Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, has returned to Hulu for a second season. The Emmy award-winning show’s return resurfaces its comparisons of Republicans and pro-life policies to the dystopian nightmare that Elizabeth Moss’s character, Offred, finds herself in the theocratic regime of Gilead.

The show has become something akin to a rallying cry for pro-abortionists and liberals everywhere who spend their weekends #Resisting. Protestors dressed in crimson robes and white hats abound along protest routes and state capitol buildings to express their ire against President Trump or to oppose bills that would regulate abortion.

How Progressives Changed Our View Of Rights And The Constitution

In the eighth lecture of Hillsdale College’s free online Constitution 101 course (which you can take along with me here) Ronald J. Pestritto, dean of the college’s Graduate School of Statesmanship, explains how Progressives sought to expand the role of government and get rid of many constraints the Founding Fathers put in place.

Teddy Roosevelt Altered U.S. Government Forever

Theodore Roosevelt was frequently irritated at the judiciary branch of government for thwarting Progressive aims to expand the role of government and its efforts to, in his mind, make life better for working-class Americans. In a speech delivered in 1912, Roosevelt said courts often obstruct the will of the people in an unproductive manner.

Chance Apologizes For ‘Black People Don’t Have To Be Democrats’

Chance the Rapper has apologized for lending air support to Kanye West, who was coming under fire for tweeting that he loved Donald Trump.

“Black people don’t have to be democrats,” Chance tweeted earlier this week. In response, woke Internet types lost their minds and even accused Chance of enabling racism. After days of blowback, Chance tweeted a lengthy statement apologizing for the seven words that triggered so many.

“Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about my city and my loved ones,” Chance wrote. “Kanye West is not just a mentor or big brother to me.
