Senior Republican lawmakers weighed in heavily after news broke Thursday that the Department of Justice has rejected former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s appeal to avoid facing prosecution based on recommendations made by the DOJ Inspector General’s report last year.

Many of the Republican lawmakers played a central role in the investigation into the FBI’s probe into the now debunked narrative that President Trump’s campaign conspired with Russia in the 2016 presidential election. McCabe is now a paid contributor at CNN and it is uncertain if he will continue in that role.

Ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes, R-C.A., told McCabe may be the first of many to fall.

“If the reports are accurate, then it appears the first domino is about to fall,” said Nunes. “Hopefully this is the first step in finally getting accountability for the many investigatory abuses we’ve seen in the very top strata of the intelligence community.”

The American people want accountability for FBI officials like Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok and James Comey, Mark Meadows

Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., who is stepping down as Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus and who was vested over the past several years in investigations into the FBI probe of Trump,  told this reporter Thursday, that the American people deserve justice and the truth.

“The American people want accountability for FBI officials like Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok and James Comey,” said Meadows. “Today’s step is hopefully the first in a process that will bring justice to those who sought to undermine the President.”

Meadows tweeted earlier in the day “Wow. Reports that a U.S. Attorney has formally recommended pursuing CRIMINAL CHARGES against former Deputy FBI Director and CNN analyst Andrew McCabe for lying to investigators.”

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, tweeted out on Thursday “Looks like we might be getting accountability for the Comey Cabal.”
